Search for a direct flight to Fujairah from Europe and you will not find one. The emirate's airport sits a few minutes from the city centre, open day and night, but its scheduled flights go almost only to India. For most travellers, the trip to the east coast starts in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

This guide covers both: what Fujairah's own airport offers, and how to reach Fujairah from the big airports on the other side of the Hajar Mountains.

Fujairah International Airport at a glance

Fujairah International Airport, code FJR, has a single passenger terminal and operates 24 hours a day. It lies within the city itself, a few kilometres south of the centre: depending on where you are staying, the drive takes 5 to 15 minutes. Lulu Mall stands right opposite, on Al-Korthabah Road (see our guide to Fujairah's malls).

The airport is easy to use. Parking is an open area next to the terminal entrance, business class passengers have the Siji Lounge, and a premium transport service can be booked online before arrival through the airport's e-services.

  • Code: FJR (ICAO: OMFJ).
  • Opening hours: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Flight Operations Center: +971 9 205 5500.

Which airlines fly to Fujairah?

The network is small and changes often. IndiGo, the Indian low-cost airline, has flown daily to Mumbai and Kannur since 15 May 2025, and daily to Kochi since 7 May 2026. Other airlines have come and gone: in March 2026, during the regional airspace disruptions, SalamAir and SpiceJet ran special flights from Fujairah, but these were not regular routes.

The airport's own website says its flight information display is being updated and refers travellers to its Flight Operations Center. The practical advice is simple: check your route and timetable directly with the airline, and keep an eye on it until departure.

From Fujairah airport to your hotel

Taxis wait outside the arrivals area, and Careem and Uber both work in Fujairah. Car rental companies have desks at the airport, the best option if you plan to explore the coast and the mountains. Some hotels also offer an airport shuttle: among those in our selection of hotels in Fujairah, the Royal M Hotel is one of them. Ask your hotel when you book.

The better way in for most travellers: Dubai or Abu Dhabi

Fujairah's tourism office says it plainly: book your flight to Abu Dhabi or Dubai, and continue to Fujairah by road. Both airports are served by many more airlines than Fujairah, from Europe and the rest of the world. Since 2026, the new Etihad Rail passenger train has added a third option to the road and the bus. Note that its stations are not at the airports: you need a taxi or a metro ride to reach them.

Via Dubai (DXB)

Official Dubai taxis run 24 hours a day from the arrivals hall, with a starting fare of AED 25 (7 USD). The ride to Fujairah takes about an hour and a half and costs around AED 300 (82 USD).

On a budget, the RTA's E700 intercity bus runs from Union Square in Deira to Fujairah bus station, for about AED 25 (7 USD), paid with a Nol card (no cash on board). Allow 2 to 2.5 hours. Since 30 September 2026, Etihad Rail also runs trains from Dubai's Al Yalayis station, in Jumeirah Golf Estates, to Fujairah, in about 70 minutes, from AED 29 (8 USD). More details in our guide from Dubai to Fujairah.

Via Abu Dhabi (AUH)

Abu Dhabi had the first rail link: since 30 June 2026, Etihad Rail connects Mohamed bin Zayed City station to Fujairah in 1 hour 45 minutes, with launch fares from AED 55 (15 USD) in Comfort class and AED 120 (33 USD) in Premium. See our guide from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah.

Via Sharjah (SHJ)

Sharjah airport is the closest of the three, about 90 km away. Its taxis are metered and run 24 hours a day, with an AED 20 (5 USD) surcharge for trips starting at the airport. Bus 116 leaves from Al Jubail bus station in Sharjah for Fujairah, in about two hours. Sharjah's own Etihad Rail station is due to open on 30 March 2027. More in our guide from Sharjah to Fujairah.

What you need to know before flying to Fujairah

Choose your airport according to where you come from

From India, a direct flight to Fujairah with IndiGo is the obvious choice. From anywhere else, compare flights to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah: the transfer to Fujairah by road or rail adds one to two hours, but the choice of flights and fares is far wider.

Plan around the heat

From May to September, temperatures in Fujairah exceed 40°C, with coastal humidity. The best months to visit are October to April.

Rent a car if you want to explore

Fujairah's beaches, mountain roads and villages are spread along the coast, and public transport is limited. A rental car, picked up at the airport, gives you the most freedom. The drive from Dubai on the E84 crosses the Hajar Mountains and is part of the trip.

Arriving late at night

Fujairah airport and the taxi ranks at Dubai airport operate around the clock, so a night arrival is not a problem. If you plan to take the train or the bus, check the last departure times before you land, or book a first night near your arrival airport.
